Postdoctoral Fellow - The Yezierski Research Group

Chemistry & Biochemistry: Postdoctoral Fellow to work with The Yezierski Research Group.  The position is full-time for one year with renewal for up to two additional years, dependent upon satisfactory annual review and funding. The Postdoctoral Fellow will work independently or as part of a team to design, implement, and disseminate research aligned with the program’s research agenda;  Participate in the development and submission of proposals for grants, contracts, or cooperative agreements; Expected to serve as first author on reports and publications; Assist in data collection and analysis; Prepare presentations and papers to be presented at national conferences; Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in the Research Group.

The Yezierski Research Group is one of two CER groups in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Miami comprising a productive, collaborative, and supportive CER division. This project involves facilitating a teacher professional development institute, investigations of teacher learning, and a national study of teacher practices and student learning outcomes. The project team will establish a sustained community of practice including teachers skilled in the VisChem Approach and a group of new teaching and research scholars with expertise in building conceptual understanding through the effective use of molecular-level visualization. The project will use an iterative design research method to examine teacher learning in the institute and how teachers implement the VisChem Approach in classrooms. The postdoctoral researcher will work with Yezierski, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and undergraduate students in the group along with Dr. Roy Tasker and an esteemed advisory board.

Required: PhD in chemistry education research or closely related field by date of appointment.  Extensive coursework or training in relevant research methods. Position not eligible for H-1B sponsorship.

Consideration may be given to candidates with interest in teacher learning, teacher professional development, design research, and/or high school chemistry, has excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills for a variety of audiences. Demonstrated research and evaluation design skills, including ability to design and lead qualitative or quantitative projects.  Exhibits extensive skill and professional research competence in a broad range of data collection, analysis and project management strategies. Alignment of substantive research interests with programmatic priorities.  Ability to integrate findings from research literature and from quantitative or qualitative data analyses to develop comprehensive research and evaluation reports.  Demonstrated ability to work independently and with colleagues to complete projects by deadlines, often handling multiple projects and deadlines concurrently.
