POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The School of Professional & Extended Studies (SPExS) invites applications for adjunct faculty to teach a 3 credit online graduate course Evaluation Quantitative Methods. Position responsibilities include equipping students with the required skill set, facilitating online discussions, assessing student performance and preparing students to be successful leaders in their chosen profession. Courses are asynchronous, fully online, and offered over 8 week terms. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold online office hours, provide assignment feedback, and consult with the Program Director on the progress of the class.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course provides opportunities for students to apply statistical measures to test evaluation hypotheses. Students explore the use of statistical software in managing and manipulating data and the proper production of descriptive and analytical reports that meet the guidelines and expectations of professional practitioners in the field. Students develop an understanding of an often intimidating and difficult subject with an approach that is informative and clear as they are guided through various statistical procedures, beginning with descriptive statistics, correlation, graphical representation of data through inferential techniques, analysis of variance, and more.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will hold a Masters, PhD or a terminal degree in an applicable field with at least 5 years of professional experience. Teaching experience at the college level is highly preferred though not required. Course assignments and schedules will depend on the selected candidate's profile and strengths. Review of applications will be ongoing and are subject to ongoing budgetary approval and sufficient course enrollment.

Applications must be completed at our Interfolio site: ( https://apply.interfolio.com/85048 ) and require: Cover Letter; Curriculum Vitae; Statement of Teaching Interests/Experience/Approach (please include which class(es) you are qualified to teach); and list of three professional references. An optional document to include: Course Evaluations. We encourage you to upload evaluations from any prior classes taught (as instructor, co-instructor, or teaching assistant.) to our Interfolio site. All documents will be treated as confidential per American University policy. Please contact Stephanie Schott, Assistant Dean (Sbrook@american.edu), if you have any questions.
