The American University School of Communication has several adjunct teaching positions available for undergraduate courses in Fall 2021 and beyond. The ideal candidate will hold a graduate degree in media studies, communication, or a related field, or alternatively have at least 5 years of professional experience in traditional and/or digital media research or strategy. Teaching experience at the college level is highly preferred though not required. Course assignments and schedules will depend on the selected candidate's profile and strengths.

There are two opportunities within the Communication Studies division that are slated for Fall 2021. Both courses are currently scheduled to meet fully in-person.

The first course, Understanding Media, is the entry-level course for undergraduate majors, giving students a broad sense of the history, practice and study of communications media in the U.S. and around the world. The class meets twice a week, midday on Tuesday and Friday, with a cap of 35 students. A course description is available here: .

The second course, Digital Media and Culture, is also for undergraduates. It focuses specifically on the role of digital media such as the web, mobile platforms, games, and social media in contemporary society. The course is flexible and may be adapted to focus on the expertise of the instructor. Class meets twice a week, midday on Tuesday and Friday, with a cap of 25 students.
