STEP Program Specialist (Grant Funded)

Salary: $42,485

This is a grant-funded position. Grant-funded positions expire either at the end of the stated term or whenever funding for the position ceases.

MVCC is seeking to fill a full-time position in our Student Life Department. The STEP Program Specialist provides direct services to the Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) students. This is a grant that introduces high-school students to STEM fields. The STEP Program Specialist assists the Director in the development, implementation and evaluation of the program.

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Fosters and maintains relationships with partner schools to facilitate the STEP program including but not limited to the delivery of services to both in partner schools and at MVCC;
  • Mentors STEP students;
  • Engages STEP students to provide support services including but not limited to tutoring, study skills, and advisement with a concentration on STEM courses;
  • Assists STEP students with College processes, with a commitment to promoting MVCC and transition to MVCC CSTEP;
  • Refers and promotes relationships between STEP students, support services as well as and STEM academic and business professionals;
  • Promotes the retention and completion of a high school degree and encourages post high school enrollment at MVCC and relationship with MVCC CSTEP in order to provide seamless 7-14 support;
  • Assists STEP students with career exploration and/or post high school graduation or employment;
  • Provides life-skills coaching that fosters completion including but not limited to time management, organization and communication skills;
  • Assists the Director and Coordinator with STEP activities to ensure compliance as outlined in the program grant;
  • Monitors STEP lab to ensure that all necessary supplies and services are available and makes recommendations for purchases as necessary;
  • Supervises STEP part-time student assistants;
  • Develops, creates and hosts (or otherwise provide for) workshops;
  • Maintains program and student records;
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Director of Student Engagement and Outreach.

Qualifications:


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working in a student support program
  • Ability to work with diverse student groups
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license at the time of hire and throughout employment
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Education or related field
