Lecturer - Fire and Emergency Services (76295)



The M.E. Rinker School of Building Construction is seeking a Lecturer with Academic Advisor Responsibilities for the Fire and Emergency Services (FES) graduate education programs. The lecturer position includes maintenance of curriculum and course content, insuring consistent delivery of courses, marketing and outreach, recruitment and retention of students. Duties Teaching The lecturer will be responsible for teaching fire administration, EMS Management, and Emergency Management as assigned by the FES Director. Course Load Teaching up to 4 courses per session depending on section sizes. A section is maximum of 30. A typical course load will not exceed 120 students per semester.

Administration:

Advises graduate students regarding the FES graduate program requirements, appropriate class selection, academic policies/procedures, and campus resources. Respond to inquiries regarding the FES programs in the appropriate manner. Maintains student and advising records in according with the state/federal law and the regulations and guidelines of the university, college, school and FES program. Monitors student performance and resolves administrative issues that may arise with students. Prepare reports and correspondence on various information associated with the FES program. Serves as back up to admissions Serves on appropriate department advisory committees Interprets University policies, procedures, and curriculum to students, faculty and staff. The lecturer will be responsible for determining overall program goals and utilizing outcome assessment to determine how well the FES program meets the needs of the students and the industry.

Registration

Responsible for registering students (both non-degree and degree seeking students) for the FES programs. Advises students of registration procedures.

Recruitment:

Working with FES program staff, the lecturer will assist in recruitment of students into the FES program. This effort will include recruitment in community colleges, conferences/expos and other areas. Outcome Assessment The lecturer shall assist the director in improving the program and providing proactive input to its curriculum to insure it addresses current industry practices and standards.

Curriculum:

The lecturer will be responsible for creating his/her course and maintaining it. Honors Students The lecturer will be the main instructor for the honors, high honors, and highest honors process for the FES program students. This will include notification of eligible students and the coordination of the student presentations at the close of the semester.

Grades

Responsible for informing instructors of all grade inputting deadlines and any late or change grade forms.

Minimum Qualifications:

A PhD in education or an academic field directly related to the area of responsibility and one year of relevant experience. Or a terminal degree in an appropriate field of study and two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity and/or work experience in fire and emergency system, the University of Florida admission and registration procedures and recruiting/advising students Ability to determine work priorities, communicate verbally and in writing.
