Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supports Department's operations by assisting with customer service requirements, such as ushering, ticket taking, and light general maintenance. Duties may also include assisting with set construction, bulk painting, running the light board or follow spotlights, opening/closing curtains and other duties as required.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
As directed by the Theater Director, Technical Theater Specialist, house manager, or storage manager, the employee must:
  1. Serve as an usher for theater events by wiping counters, vacuuming floors, taking tickets, handing out programs, box office assistance, seating elderly or handicapped customers, providing general information to the public.
  2. Assist with set construction, bulk painting, setting up and/or striking events.
  3. Serve as technician for events in such roles as light board operator, follow spot operator, opening/closing curtains, moving props and scenery.
  4. Monitor audiences to ensure they are complying with regulations regarding food/drinks/smoking/photography/audio or video recording, etc.


Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Two months of experience dealing with the public or a Customer Service Training certificate.
Preferred:
  • None.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • The Theater Assistant must reflect appropriate theater and customer service etiquette procedures.
  • Proficiency in Spanish and English preferred.
  • This individual must have a cooperative attitude and be able to communicate effectively with students, campus visitors, and college staff.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a standard office environment. Work-inside a well-lighted and air-conditioned area most of the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Safety
Required to work safely and follow safety rules. Report unsafe working conditions and behavior. Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.

Special Conditions
Immediate supervisor may assign other duties. May be required to work outside regular working hours, as needed. May be required to work at a different college work site or campus as needed.
