Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
VCU has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. JAVA Developer!
Anticipate customer and system needs, and formulate and implement plans to meet these needs, by providing technical leadership and expertise for the VCU Portal; designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining complex application systems, including the VCU Service Facade; and by installing, updating and extending third-party software, including the JA- SIG Central Authentication System. Minimum Hiring Standards
Demonstrated technical knowledge of Unix and Linux operating systems
Expert technical knowledge of Java programming language and APIs, such as JDBC
Demonstrated technical knowledge of additional computer languages, such as SQL, Perl, HTML, C, & C++
Working knowledge of networks and internet protocols, such as TCP /IP, HTTP, and LDAP
Demonstrated technical knowledge of web and other Internet servers, such as Apache and Tomcat.
Ability to learn new technologies and new languages independently
Ability to function proactively and understand problems from a broad, interactive perspective
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of personal computer software.
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU .
