Applications are invited for appointment as Full-time / Part-time Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Ref.: 504479), to commence on September 1, 2021 for nine months until May 31, 2022.

Highly-ranked in the world, the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Hong Kong offers a full range of B. Eng., M. Sc., M. Phil. and Ph.D. degree programmes. With about 30 full-time faculty members, the Department is well-equipped with teaching and research facilities and support. Applicants should possess a relevant Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related Engineering field. Previous teaching experience will be a plus. Prior academic or industrial R&D track records in fluid dynamics, microfluidics and soft matter will be an advantage. Applicants should have excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, and an excellent command of English. Preference will be given to strongly motivated candidates who are willing to be engaged in innovative teaching schemes such as flipped classroom and e-Learning.

The appointee is expected to teach undergraduate courses in Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, primarily in fluid dynamics, transport phenomena, but also possibly in other introductory subjects in a standard undergraduate curriculum. Both lectures in big classrooms and small group tutorials will be involved. He/She will also supervise research postgraduate students, capstone projects with engineering contents for final year undergraduates and teach Master’s degree students. Administrative work which promotes the educational mission of the University will also be required.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.
