About the Position:

University Advancement serves Cal State Fullerton by building and strengthening relationships with the communities we serve to encourage advocacy, investment and support of the University, its mission, goals and programs in support of student and alumni success. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our College and Program Development team as the Senior Director of Development, College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) and Natural Science and Mathematics (NSM). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Senior Director of Development will manage development efforts for a multifaceted and dynamic fundraising program. Reporting to the Executive Director of Development, the Senior Director will predominantly manage development activities in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (NSM) and College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) in close coordination with University Advancement and the Dean's in NSM and ECS. These efforts include the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of 120+ major gift prospects including corporate and foundation leaders, key alumni, parents, and friends of the college in support of fundraising initiatives, capital projects, the Corporate Partners program, campaign and scholarships. The Senior Director will prepare and maintain a strategic fundraising plan that is consistent with the college's priorities, University Advancement, and university goals and objectives. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field. A minimum of five to seven years of demonstrated successful direct major gift fundraising experience. Ability to solicit and secure gifts of a minimum of $25,000. Ability to understand the culture of a university. Ability to work with teams of faculty, staff, students, and volunteers. Ability to coordinate small events in support of fundraising efforts. Ability to create a strategic approach to development with assessment built in to determine progress and success. Ability to travel frequently and hold both on, off site and virtual conversations and presentations with individuals and corporate leaders for qualification, cultivation and solicitation purposes. Proficiency in the use of general office equipment and Windows based software, as well as experience with donor databases. Dynamic, self-motivated, goal oriented and have the ability to connect big picture thinking to strategic steps that connect with various donor populations.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Previous work experience with a primary focus on the qualification/cultivation/solicitation of large gifts. Successful experience with corporate and foundation giving, planned giving, capital or comprehensive campaigns, and higher education.
