About the Opportunity:
The college or Arts, Media and Design is searching for an Exploratory Academic Advisor.

The main mission of the CAMD Exploratory Academic Advisor is to ensure a student-centered, holistic advising environment for students in the College of Arts, Media and Design. CAMD offers students over 55 majors and combined majors based in the college. In this role, the primary function of the Exploratory academic advisor is to specialize in all majors and combined majors within the college and guide and support students in their major program decisions within the college and university. This role functions as a hub of information for students who are in the decision process about a CAMD major, which will discuss academics, co-op, industry and other opportunities leading to the successful selection of a major or combined major. This role will also serve as the primary academic advisor to a partial caseload of students in CAMD departments.

As members of the undergraduate advising team in the college, the academic advisors work closely with each other under the direct supervision of the Director of Academic Advising to: advise undergraduate students on a wide range of academic issues starting in their first year and continuing through graduation; maintain accurate advising and student records; and coordinate various student services related projects aimed at providing academic support and information to students. In addition, advisors work in partnership with faculty mentors and chairs in their academic departments to develop advising support initiatives that will enhance the quality of students' academic experience and increase retention of students.

To qualify, candidate must have a Master's degree in an arts or education-related field, and direct academic advising and career development experience. At least 2 years of experience in higher education preferred, inclusive of graduate internship or practicum experience.

Candidate must have strong organizational, analytical, interpersonal and communication (both verbal and written) skills. Have general computer skills, be proficient with all Microsoft Office applications and have experience using databases is required. Ability to learn and effectively utilize the college and university-level systems, degree audit and other computer systems in day- to-day advising is necessary.

Candidate must be able to work well with a wide range of personalities, juggle many activities simultaneously, take initiative, work independently, be detail-oriented and follow through with projects. Ability to work as an integral member of a team is critical.
