Engineering Education is recruiting for two Advisors to join our Advising Team !

Job Description

The Academic and Career Advisor helps students with analyzing interests and abilities, choosing a major, changing majors, selecting courses, meeting requirements, and succeeding academically.

The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be interpreted as all-inclusive:
- Provide academic and career advising services to approximately 350-700 engineering students
- Deliver accurate information and advice to students about majors/minors and course options
- Identify educational and career options appropriate for each student and assist with the analysis of each option, including possible outcomes and their implications
- Monitor academic progress of students and determine satisfactory progress toward transferring to an undergraduate degree granting program
- Identify current and potential needs or problem areas (e.g. study skills, tutoring, counseling) and refer students to appropriate campus resources for assistance
- Support class scheduling, enrollment, and systems related to class registration
- Maintain student files and records; document all pertinent student information
- Interpret and explain college and university policies and procedures
- Participate in recruiting activities for the university, college, and department, including but not limited to new student orientation, new student welcome, change of major information sessions, engineering open house, course request group advising, plan of study workshops, etc
- Communicate in a highly professional manner with department faculty, university administrators, researchers, staff, students, and campus visitors
- Work effectively with a diverse population, including students, faculty, and staff
- Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

- Master’s degree in engineering, educational administration, student development, or related field from an accredited university
- Academic advising experience, classroom instructional experience, counseling and/or other relevant experience
- Educational planning, and/or programming experience at the college level
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills with the ability to develop and deliver public speeches with confidence to large and small groups
- Demonstrated advanced computer skills, particularly related to data management, and proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of applications
- Knowledge of mechanisms of student retention, student development theories, career development strategies, and recruitment strategies
- Excellent organizational skills, creativity, flexibility, and self-motivation
- Must be able to work effectively in both a team environment and independently, with sensitivity to cultural and ethnic differences
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
- Ability to handle a large number of inquiries by phone, email, and in person while maintaining a professional and mature demeanor
- Must enjoy working with students in a higher education setting

Preferred Qualifications

- Professional academic advising experience in a higher education setting
- Familiarity with student information systems
- Experience with first-year students

Salary Information 50k - 52k, depending on qualifications
