Job Summary

The Biomedical Engineering Program (BME) at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU) is seeking a full-time Instructor to start in January 2022 or later. BME is a new interdisciplinary program (2020 launch) within the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) at CU. It already has over 150 undergraduate and 25 graduate majors. It has strengths in biomechanics, imaging, devices and therapeutics, and prepares students for careers in industry, the medical profession and research.

CEAS is the top-ranked engineering college in the Rocky Mountain Region, and one of the top public programs in the country. BME program faculty are drawn from five departments: Aerospace Engineering Sciences, Chemical & Biological Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical, Computer & Energy Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. BME undergraduates include over 60% women and 35% persons of color.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering or related field and teaching experience. The candidate will teach or co-teach core BME courses, including a capstone design course and potentially courses in introduction to biomedical engineering, biotransport, bioinstrumentation and other areas. The preferred candidate will have a strong technical background in BME or related field and comfort in teaching in both classroom and laboratory settings, including the development of curriculum and new courses. Knowledge of electronics, equipment and software (MATLAB, Excel, R, etc.) will be employed in the courses.

Annual salary will range from $70,000 – $100,000 per academic year. Relocation funds of up to $5000 will also be provided.

What We Require

  • Doctorate degree (or international equivalent) within biomedical engineering or a related field.
  • Ability to teach core biomedical engineering classes and labs.
  • College-level teaching experience as either the instructor of record or as a teaching assistant.


What We Would Like You To Have

  • Engineering lab and/or design experience, for instance with equipment and electronics.
  • Knowledge of MATLAB, Excel and R software; other programming languages and/or experience with microcontrollers are also a plus.
  • Two years of teaching experience including strong student teaching evaluations.
  • Some industry experience in a biomedical engineering-related field.
  • Experience teaching large (50+) classes.
  • Demonstrated service to an academic department.
