TWO POSITIONS AVAILABLE

The Syracuse University Department of Drama seeks to hire up to two Visiting Assistant Teaching Professors for the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 semesters. Primary expertise should be in acting; expertise in directing and/or musical theater performance is also desirable. The department seeks candidates whose personal and professional experience, teaching, and creative activity contribute to the advancement of equity, aesthetic diversity, and cultural wealth. Successful candidates will enhance the department’s capacity both to honor and to cultivate the contributions of those communities that have historically been under-represented or underserved in theater training and/or the theatrical profession. These positions will consist of teaching a variety of performance courses and possibly directing student productions, as assigned by the Chair and based upon expertise. These are one-semester, leave-replacement positions beginning in August 2021 and January 2022, respectively. One candidate might be appointed to both positions, based on expertise and availability.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree plus additional preparation, as demonstrated by either significant professional experience and/or relevant advanced degree, are highly desirable.
• Demonstrated teaching experience in a pre-professional, professional, or university environment is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated personal and professional experience, teaching, and creative activity that will contribute to the advancement of equity, aesthetic diversity, and cultural wealth are required.
• Ability to enhance the department’s capacity both to honor and to cultivate the contributions of those communities that have historically been under-represented or underserved in performance training and/or the performing arts is required.
• Ability to direct professional quality productions is desirable.

Job Specific Qualifications
• Engage in inclusive pedagogy and the advancement of equity, aesthetic diversity, and cultural wealth.
• Ability to teach a variety of levels and styles of acting and performance.
• Expertise in diverse aesthetic genres and styles as applied to theater and performance is desired. Responsibilities
• Prepare and teach 2-3 studio classes in acting, scene study, etc., at both fundamental and upper levels.
• Prepare syllabi with clearly defined course outcomes and grading criteria.
• Be available for weekly office hours.
• Offer timely feedback and grading.
• Attend faculty meetings as needed.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues from all programs of study within in the department
