The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering at the University of Florida (UF) invites applications for a full-time, twelve-month non- tenure track, time-limited faculty position at the rank of Research Assistant Scientist in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

The chosen candidate will join Dr. Chelsey Simmons’ Mechanobiology Laboratory, and their work will be primarily supported by Dr. Simmons’ project to unlock the secrets of mammalian regeneration by using the African Spiny Mouse as a novel model system, funded by the US National Institute of General Medical Science. The incumbent will be helping to understand the relationship of resident cells (e.g., fibroblasts) and blood cells (e.g., macrophages) in Spiny Mouse regeneration. In consultation with Dr. Simmons, they will be responsible for overseeing planning, performance, and dissemination of relevant in vivo and in vitro projects. The incumbent will devise experimental protocols and processes, compile and analyze data, develop figures, search, and analyze scientific literature, write manuscripts, and present data at local and national meetings (may include travel). As part of Dr. Simmons’ large research group, they will mentor postdocs, graduate students, and staff, participate in departmental committees, and contribute to general lab maintenance and safety. The incumbent is also encouraged to write proposals to support their independent research portfolio.

The successful candidate is expected to have a doctoral degree in Biomechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Medicine, or a related field. Knowledge and experience in the following topics are required: Cell/Tissue Mechanics, Animal Models of Wound Healing, Academic Writing. Knowledge or experience in the following topics are desired but not required: Immunology, Mechanobiology, Biomaterials, Bioinformatics, and/or Genetics.
