Position Summary
The candidate for this position will teach undergraduate classes in sports broadcast and production, which are part of the college’s Sports Media Certificate program. The Lecturer in Sports Broadcast also will teach undergraduate classes in digital and broadcast news for the Journalism department. All classes will help students develop knowledge and skills in reporting, writing and producing, and journalism ethics.
The individual selected will serve as the executive producer of student-driven studio shows and live-streamed broadcasts that focus on area high school sports. The Lecturer in Sports Broadcast also will direct outreach initiatives that give high school students in Georgia’s underrepresented and/or underserved communities the opportunity to gain sports broadcast experience.

UGA’s College of Journalism and Mass Communication celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2015. Minimum Qualifications
Terminal or master’s degree in Journalism or related field. Candidates with a master’s degree must document exceptional accomplishments in Sports media or related area and must be approved for a terminal degree exception before hire.
Additional Requirements
The successful candidate should have at least five years of recent industry experience in sports broadcasting.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
Preferably, the applicant’s experience includes working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, worldviews and life experiences. Experience with broadcasts of live sports events also is preferred. Applicants must have experience in conceptualizing and leading teams that produce sports-centric video programming. They will have formal or informal experience teaching or mentoring in a professional or academic setting.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Applicants must be familiar with broadcast and digital production techniques. They also must demonstrate an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in on-air sports broadcast roles. They also must have an understanding of various multimedia platforms — including digital and social — and how students can produce work to maximize the unique facets of each platform.
