Job Description:

Fairfield University invites nominations and applications for the position of Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration. The private, co-educational university has more than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in its 5 schools and colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, the Charles F. Dolan School of Business, the Marion Peckham Egan School of Nursing and Health Studies, the School of Engineering, and the recently renamed School of Education and Human Development. Currently, the University offers 48 undergraduate majors, 24 interdisciplinary minors, 45 graduate programs, 3 of which are doctoral. 312 full-time faculty and 306 parttime faculty teach across the College of Arts and Sciences, the Charles F. Dolan School of Business, the Marion Peckham Egan School of Nursing and Health Studies, the School of Engineering, and the School of Education and Human Development. Year after year, Fairfield programs receive noteworthy praise.

This will be an exciting time for a new leader to join as Fairfield is in the midst of historic growth, expecting its largest incoming class ever this fall. To further this evolution and growth, the board recently approved a special appropriation to fund four strategic initiatives over five years that will be key to ongoing and future success: Preparing for the Advent of Big Data, Engaging Industry and Community Partnerships, Expanding Geographic Footprint, and Exploring New Instructional Modalities. Reporting to President Mark Nemec, the Senior Vice President orchestrates a unified strategy across a complex academic organization to ensure alignment, collaboration and effective support of the institution in both current and future initiatives. The SVP leads a team of 150 employees through five direct reports: Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer; Vice President, Chief Information Officer; Vice President, Facilities Management; Assistant Vice President, Auxiliary Services; and Director, Public Safety.

The senior leadership team is characterized by trust, open communication, and shared goals, Fairfield seeks a leader who will exemplify those characteristics and bring an entrepreneurial and creative approach to developing/supporting new, innovative ideas that will stretch the institution and push the boundaries within higher education. The SVP will also create and articulate an inspiring operational vision for the organization that will best position us for achieving our ambitious strategic initiatives.

The ideal candidate will be an accomplished strategic finance and operations leader with notable executive experience in leading a positive, sustained impact in complex matrixed environments, where collaboration and influence management were critical to success. They should be solutions-oriented, high energy leader have the skills and breadth of vision to partner effectively with an accomplished senior leadership team.
