Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
The VCU C. Kenneth and Dianne Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking a Biostatistician with broad analytic and biomedical experience. The successful candidate will be working with a team of biostatisticians to collaborate with health science researchers to advance science and foster partnerships that accelerate translational research for the betterment of human health. Under supervision of the Director of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design ( BERD ) Core, the Senior Biostatistician will provide statistical analysis, data management and consultation for projects at Virginia Commonwealth University, which includes projects across the VCU School of Medicine campus and the broader VCU campus. The Senior Statistician performs professional statistical work using a variety of standard statistical methods and programming techniques in order to complete assignments, and will perform other related duties as required. Minimum Hiring Standards
•Master’s Degree in a quantitative or health sciences field, such as biostatistics, statistics, bioinformatics, epidemiology, public health. •At least two years of experience collaborating with health sciences researchers in conducting long-term research studies and trials. •Experience in designing research studies, identifying appropriate statistical methods, creating statistical analysis plans, and calculating and justifying sample size or power. •Experience in designing data collection procedures and protocols. •Demonstrated proficiency in R or SAS . •Experience in data management, including data cleaning and variable creation. •Ability to apply and interpret results from commonly-used statistical methods, such as hypothesis testing, linear regression and generalized linear models, time to event analysis, mixed-effect models, and longitudinal data analysis. •Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively and concisely communicate research designs and statistical analysis plans to investigators and collaborators, and also for drafting clear, concise and reproducible statistical methods and results sections publication in peer-reviewed journals. •Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with co-workers, faculty, research staff, students, and community contacts and collaborate effectively as a team to address responsibilities, set priorities, and ensure work is conducted in a timely manner. •Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU .
