This clinical faculty physician position will staff the inaugural direct primary care clinic for the UH College of Medicine. This clinician will be responsible for all patient care activities, including chronic care management, acute care, and care coordination. Direct primary care (DPC) is a relatively new method of delivering primary health care services in which patients pay a modest monthly membership fee for a broad, defined spectrum of services. This clinician will practice comprehensive family medicine including the provision of pediatric care, women’s health and some office-based procedures.

This position will also contribute to the educational mission of University of Houston College of Medicine both in Clinic and through facilitation of team-based learning sessions and didactic sessions for medical students in other pre-clerkship medical school courses. This clinician will provide direct primary care at a University of Houston direct primary care practice site in Southwest Houston.

This position will report directly to the Chairman of the Clinical Sciences Department . This is a non-tenure track faculty position.

Specific duties include the following:

Primary Responsibilities :

Direct Patient Care
• Evaluate and treat adult patients and pediatric at a University of Houston College of Medicine Direct Primary Care site.
• Provide input for the development of clinical protocols and guidelines for the Direct Primary Care practice.
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
• Participate in community outreach activities.

Educational Mission
• Contribute to Team Based Learning Sessions in the Physicians, Patients and Populations Course and other courses with the preclinical and clinical curriculum at UHCOM.
• Precept medical students at a University of Houston College of Medicine Direct Primary Care practice as part of the Longitudinal Primary Care course.

Salary and rank commensurate with academic achievements and experience.

Full-Time: 1.0 FTE

Qualifications :

• Medical Licensure in the State of Texas
• Board certification in Family Medicine
• Experience documenting with an electronic medical record

Preferred Qualifications
• Bi-lingual in Spanish
• At least 3-5 years clinical experience
• Experience with inter-professional teams
• Experience in curriculum development
• Experience contributing to quality improvement projects
