Assistant Professor of Public Administration & Policy, Max S. Baucus Institute

The University of Montana invites applications for a tenure track, Assistant Professor of Public Administration & Policy, with the appointment beginning Spring or Fall 2022. The Department of Public Administration and Policy is home to some of the most successful, innovative programs and scholars at the University of Montana and is centrally located within the School of Law’s Max Baucus Institute. The Department has the only accredited MPA Program in the State of Montana, and is the only accredited MPA Program housed in a law school in the nation. The Department attracts a diverse student population, both in-state and out-of-state students, and early and mid-career professionals. The successful candidate is required to be a public administration generalist with the ability to teach at the graduate level in our MPA Program and occasionally within our nonprofit graduate level certificate and/or undergraduate minor in nonprofit administration. The applicant’s area of expertise in public administration is open; however, applicants will be required to teach across our MPA core curriculum (e.g. Applied Research Methods, Budgeting, Policy Analysis).

Position Details

• Position is full-time (1.0 FTE), academic year, tenure-track faculty position and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including health and life insurance, mandatory retirement savings plan, partial tuition waiver, and an employee wellness program.
• 3:2 teaching load, with a requirement to teach at least one summer online class for extra compensation in alternate years, active research agenda, and a commitment to public service is expected
  
  
• Salary for this position is $65,000-68,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications

• MPA/MPP (or related field)
• Ph.D. in public administration, public policy, or related field (ABD/Doctoral candidates will be considered)
• 3-5 years professional experience in the public or nonprofit sector
• Experience teaching online (asynchronous) and in-person
• Demonstrated commitment to cultural awareness
• Experience teaching in public administration at graduate level and some experience at the undergraduate level

Preferred Qualifications

• Evidence of an active research agenda (e.g., peer reviewed publications)
• Clear evidence of a strong commitment to collegiality
