Job Summary:

The Residence Life Coordinator provides administration, supervision, educational programming, and management in a residence hall or apartment setting. Provides mentoring and leadership to Residence Life staff and students.  Creates an atmosphere conducive to learning and living, and accomplishes the goals of the institution, Student Affairs, and Housing Operations and Residence Life. This is an on-campus live in position.

Essential Functions:

·         Maintains daily office hours and projects a high degree of visibility and availability to all students and staff members. 

·         Attends University activities, e.g.: University athletic events, JSU Preview Days, JSU Family Days, Residence Hall Association events, Student Government Association events, Resident Assistant Class, Graduation, and performing arts events, and use student dining facilities and recreational facilities to help establish professional relationships with student residents. 

·         Participates in the residence life processes of room assignment; maintains accurate occupancy data for the facilities; approves and facilitates room changes within the halls and apartment area.

·         Prepares and maintains roster of residents and regularly updates office staff. 

·         Maintains master and room key inventory; conducts monthly fire drills, room safety inspections, hall lock-up, visitation, etc.

·         Reports and follows up on maintenance requests.

·         Reports and maintains files for all records, i.e. student information cards; duty logs; discipline reports; work orders; room, hall and apartment changes; visitation cards; occupancy reports; fire drill reports, hall and apartment area inspection, etc.

·         Attends to emergency/crisis situations such as power outages, fires, maintenance, etc.

·         Interprets and administers housing and university policy and procedures.

·         Oversees the opening/closing of halls at the beginning and ending of the semesters, holiday breaks, etc. 

·         Keeps the Director of Residence Life and the Resident Assistants informed daily of activities, problems, and occurrences in the halls or apartment areas.

·         Provides appropriate counseling referrals to individual students, including student employees as needed.

·         Investigates and responds to concerns and complaints of students, parents, staff members, and others in a manner that provides accurate information and fosters good public relations.

·         Supervises and trains Resident Assistants (RAs), and Desk Assistants (DAs); develops staff interest surveys, and responds to the needs of assigned student employees.

·         Monitors and oversees Residence Life programs and activities.

·         Coordinates the distribution and compilation of student needs assessments and the use of this data in programming efforts and improvement of services. 

·         Coordinates the formation and development of floor, hall, and campus wide residence hall government, including a judicial board.

·         Serves as a judicial officer.

·         Participates on committees as assigned.

·         Performs on-call responsibilities and other duties as assigned.

·        Performs all other duties as assigned

Required Minimum Qualifications:

·         Bachelor’s degree, and

·         at least two years of experience in residence hall management

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Master’s degree in Student Development, Student Personnel Management, Student Affairs or related field
