Job Details

We are seeking a professionally curious, engaged, and enthusiastic librarian who values collaboration and an innovative student-centered approach to the development of information literacy skills.

USM Libraries is looking to welcome a health sciences focused Research & Instruction Librarian with a strong understanding of evidence-based practice in the health fields to our team of professional reference and instruction librarians. This librarian proactively serves as library liaison to health science academic departments, assists with collection development, and participates in a learning commons model of student support, including serving in a reference service rotation with the team. The Research & Instruction Librarian develops and delivers course-integrated information literacy instruction and produces videos, tutorials, and other educational materials for the online library. Other project work includes participation in library initiatives such as Open Educational Resources (OER) and library outreach to the university community.

By focusing our work towards student success, USM Libraries support the University’s Service Promise to be Student Focused Every Day. We live the USM Service Promise and seek team members who understand that promise and support our values of Respect & Care, Integrity, Equity, and Responsiveness. We are committed to ensuring our work reflects a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging for all students.

The USM Libraries are strongly committed to DEI initiatives and supporting a culturally diverse team. We welcome and encourage women,  minorities, individuals with disabilities, members of LGBTQIA communities, and those who are multilingual to submit their applications.

USM is located in Portland Maine’s metro area that is home to over half a million people with a lively, livable community nationally known for its arts and culture, outdoor recreation, beautiful beaches, and amazing food.  Over 60 languages and dialects are spoken in the greater Portland area alone!

USM’s three environmentally friendly campuses are unique, yet all share the extensive resources of the university — and all are energized through strong community partnerships.  Offering easy access to Boston, plus the ocean, mountains and forests of coastal, inland and northern Maine, USM is at the heart of Maine's most exciting metropolitan region.
