Senior Professorial Lecturer/Professorial Lecturer in the MEd Education Policy and Leadership

To further expand and deepen our school community's core values of excellence, antiracism, equity and social justice, the School of Education at American University seeks to add four (4) full-time faculty (non-tenure track) with expertise and experience in antiracist education across multiple programs. We seek to appoint 3 new faculty with expertise in antiracist practice related to education policy and leadership (1 faculty search in the EdD program; 2 faculty searches in the MEd program) and one faculty member with expertise in antiracist teaching and teacher preparation to serve as the Director of Undergraduate Teacher Education in SOE. All four of the new faculty must hold deep commitments and "practice-oriented" expertise in antiracist education in their respective fields. The SOE sees these four new antiracist faculty hires as a continued and growing commitment to furthering antiracist education across AU, in the local DC community, the nation, and decolonizing across the globe.

The below job description is specifically for the two faculty positions in EPL MEd, who will serve as Senior Professorial Lecturer/Professorial Lecturer in the MEd Education Policy and Leadership program at the School of Education. These are term (non-tenure track) faculty appointments for the academic year 2021-2022, with potential for subsequent annual reappointment. These are 12-month positions and will commence in Fall 2021. The MEd in Education Policy & Leadership (EPL) program, which operates both in-person and online, prepares educators and other professionals to serve as leaders in education organizations. Students gain the knowledge and skills in leadership, policy, anti-racist approaches, law, economics, and research to effectively administer education programs and policies at all levels.

Over the calendar year, these faculty members will be expected to teach across MEd program (online and/or on campus).

Key responsibilities include the following:

• Teaching courses, reflective of anti-racist knowledges, literacies, and capacities, during 2021-2022 academic year.
• Other responsibilities aligned with the MEd program (participating in equitable admissions processes, program evaluation, etc).
• Service to EPL, SOE, American University, the local DC community, and/or the field of Education Policy and Leadership.

Applicants for these term faculty positions should hold a Ph.D., Ed.D., or other terminal degree in education leadership, education policy, or another relevant field. Highly qualified applicants with all but dissertation in a field related to education will be considered.

Candidates must have a belief in and commitment to anti-racism, within their practice, research, and/or teaching. Candidates will have experience and knowledge across some of the following: education leadership theory and practice, education policy analysis and implementation, applied methods, or organizational change. Candidates with school, district, or state leadership experience, or policy implementation experience, are preferred.
