Job Details

The Creative Writing Program in the Department of English at Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with a specialization in Creative Writing (Poetry), to begin Fall 2022. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong track record of publication as well as the ability to teach a variety of courses in poetry at the undergraduate level, including an introduction to poetic form and technique, beginning and advanced poetry workshops, and readings in poetry. The successful candidate will be engaged in helping to sustain, and to continue to develop, a top-ranked writing program. We thus seek a candidate with experience working in diverse undergraduate communities with a commitment to adaptive and inclusive teaching strategies. We are especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. We strongly encourage applications from minority candidates. Those with additional specializations in other creative genres are especially encouraged to apply.

The qualified applicant will have a terminal degree in Creative Writing (MFA or PhD), and a substantial publication record, including at least one collection of poetry, as well as demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. The Department is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and particularly invites applications from under-represented communities.

Nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position. The teaching load is 2/2.

Carnegie Mellon Univesity

Carnegie Mellon University challenges the curious and passionate to imagine and deliver work that matters.

A private, global research university, Carnegie Mellon stands among the world's most renowned educational institutions, and sets its own course. Start the journey here.

Over the past 10 years, more than 400 startups linked to CMU have raised more than $7 billion in follow-on funding. Those investment numbers are especially high because of the sheer size of Pittsburgh’s growing autonomous vehicles cluster – including Uber, Aurora, Waymo and Motional – all of which are here because of their strong ties to CMU.

With cutting-edge brain science, path-breaking performances, innovative startups, driverless cars, big data, big ambitions, Nobel and Turing prizes, hands-on learning, and a whole lot of robots, CMU doesn't imagine the future, we create it.

Many seek Pittsburgh for being a hot spot for entrepreneurship and a model for future cities. Others come for the city's burgeoning food scene.
