The Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology in the Waters College of Health Professions invites applications and nominations for the position of Visiting Instructor of Coaching Education for academic year 2021-2022. The home campus for this position will be the Statesboro campus.

Georgia Southern University was founded in 1906 as a school for teaching modern agricultural production techniques and homemaking skills to rural school children. Its Savannah campus was established in 1935 as Armstrong Junior College for local youth who could not afford to attend college away from home. The Liberty Center in Hinesville was established in 1998 to serve the military and their families at nearby Fort Stewart, the largest military base east of the Mississippi. All three locations came together in 2018 when Armstrong State University and Georgia Southern University consolidated. Within this setting, the Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology is a dynamic and growing unit of over 60 faculty and staff serving over 2,000 majors enrolled in a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs. The existing Coaching Education program includes an undergraduate minor and an online concentration within our Masters in Kinesiology degree. Both the undergraduate minor and graduate concentration are accredited by the United States Center for Coaching Excellence. This position will fill teaching needs within the Coaching Education program.

Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology, the Visiting Instructor of Coaching Education position requires teaching some of the following courses in the undergraduate Coaching Minor: Principles of Coaching, Sport Conditioning Lab, Coaching Baseball/Softball, Coaching Football, Coaching Olympic Sports, Psychology of Coaching, Principles of Officiating, and Coaching Practicum. If the successful candidate has a doctoral degree in Coaching Education or a closely related discipline, the candidate may also teach some of the following courses in the graduate Coaching Education concentration: Sport Coaching Pedagogy, Research Methods, Administrative Issues in Coaching, and Practical Applications of Human Performance. The position may also require a small amount of service and administrative work, but the primary focus will be teaching four to five courses each semester. This is a 10-month appointment (August 2021 – May 2022), and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. All visiting instructor positions are non-tenure track appointments. There is the possibility for reappointment to a second year based on funding availability and satisfactory performance.

Required Qualifications:

• Earned master's degree* in Coaching Education or a closely related discipline by August 1, 2021 with 18 graduate semester hours in Coaching Education or a closely related field.
  
• Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
  
• Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
  
• Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.
  
  *Note: An earned doctorate in Coaching Education or a closely related discipline will be required to teach courses in the graduate Coaching Education program.
  
  Preferred Qualifications:
  
• Experience teaching college/university courses in Coaching Education.
  
• High school and/or college coaching experience.
  
• Potential for online teaching.
