The Department of Communication Arts in the College of Arts and Humanities invites applications and nominations for the position of visiting instructor of Communication Studies for the2021-2022 academic year. The home campus for this position will be the Statesboro campus with the possibility of providing support as needed at the Armstrong or Liberty campuses.

Within this setting, the Department of Communication Arts is the largest in the College of Arts and Humanities, and is home to five undergraduate majors: Communication Studies, Multimedia Journalism, Multimedia Film and Production, Public Relations, and Theatre. The Department also offers an interdisciplinary Master of Arts in Professional Communication and Leadership.

Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Communication Arts, visiting instructors typically teach fifteen credit hours per semester and hold regular office hours. The primary courses for the visiting lecturer will be Public Speaking and Introduction to Communication Research. Some service is expected such as supporting general education assessment of the public speaking course. The position is a 10-month appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. All visiting instructor positions are non-tenure track appointments. There is the possibility for reappointment to a second year based on funding availability and satisfactory performance.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Communication, or a closely-related discipline with at least 18 graduate semester hours in communication, by August 1, 2021.
  • One year of experience working with and/or teaching college students
  • Demonstrated ability to teach Public Speaking and Introduction to Communication Research
  • Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
  • Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Communication or a closely-related discipline
  • Experience teaching and assessing the public speaking course
  • Experience with technology and multimodal course delivery
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development
  • Experience teaching and/or working with a diverse student body
