Job Description

Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations - Public Health - 21001450

Tufts Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) has an opening for an Associate Director position. The Associate Director will play a key role in developing and executing a robust engagement and fundraising strategy with the goal of deepening relationships, growing the foundation and corporate prospect pool and securing institutional support for education and research program priorities that align within Tufts University School of Medicine's Public Health and Community Medicine department and Public Health programs. Tufts Public Health is distinguished by strong faculty with a broad multidisciplinary approach devoted to the promotion of public health through education, research, population-based and patient-centered advocacy, shaping health policy, and community service. The department's research themes include environmental and occupational health, health inequality and social determinants of health, health communication, obesity and chronic disease, nutrition and infection, health policy and health care delivery, and global health. The Associate Director will also serve as the CFR liaison to the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging (HNRCA) - a research center studying nutrition and its relationship to healthy aging and physical activity. In addition, the Associate Director will support the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, Health Sciences. in other strategic initiatives. The Associate Director will report to the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, Health Sciences.

In this role, the Associate Director will identify appropriate corporate and foundation prospects for priority and strategic projects and programs and work effectively with faculty, School Leadership and administrators in the development and submission of proposals. The Associate Director is a vital member of a multi-faceted Advancement team focused on the University's campaign and academic strategic priorities. A close working relationship with the Director of CFR, the Senior Director of Development for the Medical School, and the Senior Director of Development for the HNRCA is expected. As a key member of the CFR team, continual communication with Senior Director of CFR, fellow team members and academic personnel is paramount to the success of the organization.

The ideal candidate will be a collegial and entrepreneurial team player with experience in the public health sector and a track record of professional growth and successful relationship management in a complex organization. They will be a strategic thinker with excellent proposal writing and communication skills and the ability to engage, influence and persuade others.

Required Qualifications:
  • Knowledge & skills typically acquired through a Bachelor's degree
  • 5-7 years of non-profit fundraising experience, working in the public health sector, or comparable field
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills
  • Demonstrated experience in proposal writing and securing corporate and foundation funding

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master or PhD preferred, Advanced degree or degree in public health or life science field
  • Subject matter knowledge in the area of public health including funding landscape
  • Experience in an academic setting
  • Highly professional with the ability to work with and command the respect of faculty and administrators, and nurture productive working partnerships internally and externally
  • Ability to grasp and synthesize complex information across a range of issues and technical disciplines.
  • Ability to think strategically, manage multiple projects effectively, evaluate problems and display sound, confidential judgment
  • Motivated to learn and display flexibility in a changing environment
  • Ability to prioritize work in response to multiple demands
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of multiple teams
  • Highly motivated, entrepreneurial, collaborative, conscientious, and results-oriented
