The Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Environmental Health Sciences in the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health invites applications and nominations for the position of visiting instructor. The home campus for this position will be the Armstrong campus in Savannah, Georgia, but may also require teaching on the Statesboro campus.

Georgia Southern University was founded in 1906 as a school for teaching modern agricultural production techniques and homemaking skills to rural school children. Its Savannah campus was established in 1935 as Armstrong Junior College for local youth who could not afford to attend college away from home. The Liberty Center in Hinesville was established in 1998 to serve the military and their families at nearby Fort Stewart, the largest military base east of the Mississippi. All three locations came together in 2018 when Armstrong State University and Georgia Southern University consolidated. The mission of the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health (JPHCOPH) is to improve health, eliminate health disparities and health inequities of rural communities and underserved populations globally through excellence in teaching, public health workforce development, research, scholarship, professional service and community engagement. Within this setting, JPHCOPH offers the Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH), Master of Public Health (MPH), and Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degrees, as well as a Certificate in Public Health (online). The BSPH degree has three emphasis areas: Health Education and Promotion, Environmental Health, and Global Health. The MPH program has six concentration areas: Biostatistics, Community Health, Environmental Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Health Policy & Management, and Applied Public Health (online). The Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree has five concentration areas: Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Community Health Behavior and Education, Health Policy, and Public Health Leadership (online). The Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Environmental Health Sciences houses the DrPH and the MPH in Biostatistics and Epidemiology.

Position Description. Reporting to the Department chair, the visiting instructor will be required to contribute to departmental and college teaching objectives. At Georgia Southern, visiting instructors normally teach fifteen credit hours per semester, hold regular office hours, and participate in departmental and concentration meetings and activities. All visiting positions are non-tenure track, academic-year (9/10 month) appointments. Appointments are for one year only, with the possibility of reappointment to a second year, based upon funding availability and satisfactory performance.

Required Qualifications:

• Earned master's degree or higher in Public Health, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Public Health, by August 1, 2021.
  
• Commitment to teaching, academic program development, and service that is consistent with the College's vision and mission.
  
• Ability to contribute to a positive work environment in the College and the University.
  
• Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
  
• Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
  
• Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution
  
  Preferred Qualifications:
  
• Necessary academic qualifications to teach undergraduate courses in the core public health curriculum.
  
• Some college/university teaching experience.
