LASP is currently encouraging applications for an experienced Quality Assurance Engineer III. The successful candidate will participate as a member of an instrument team that will develop, fabricate and test NASA-funded space flight hardware.

The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) began in 1948, a decade before NASA. We are the world’s only research institute to have sent instruments to all eight planets and Pluto.

LASP combines all aspects of space exploration through our expertise in science, engineering, mission operations, and scientific data analysis. As part of CU, LASP also works to educate and train the next generation of space scientists, engineers, and mission operators by integrating undergraduate and graduate students into working teams.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

The QA Engineer (QAE) III provides quality assurance oversight and expertise to flight hardware development projects.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Supervision of students.
  • Occasional oversight and mentoring of junior QAEs.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Perform receiving inspections of procured parts and materials.
  • Perform in-process workmanship inspections in compliance with required NASA and IPC standards.
  • Generate quality planning documents.
  • Review various project design and process documents for acceptability.
  • Provide QA oversight of vendors/suppliers.
  • Guide, oversee, and make recommendations throughout the project anomaly resolution process.
  • Participate in project risk management and configuration control procedures.
  • Advise project team and lab personnel on complex QA matters.
  • Present QA plans and status at formal design reviews.
  • Assure compliance with quality standards and procedures.
  • Contribute to resolution of lab-wide process issues.
  • Represent LASP QA to outside organizations.
  • Mentor junior QA Engineers as needed on daily activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


What You Should Know

  • Due to export control restrictions only US persons (US citizens, US lawful permanent residents), or asylees/refugees under specific Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA) amnesty provisions may apply.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Standing for extended periods in full cleanroom garb.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.


What We Can Offer

The salary range is $81,500-$106,000.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Six years of QA experience in an aerospace environment.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Outstanding attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain amicable relationships with fellow employees, vendors, and prime contractor personnel.
  • Diplomacy for negotiating agreements in cases of differing opinions.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software to maintain accurate records.
