Digital Humanities Librarian (Assistant or Associate Librarian)

 

The Baylor University Libraries seeks a collaborative, engagement-focused Digital Humanities Librarian to join the Research & Engagement department, which includes the liaison program, services and support and services for data and digital scholarship, instruction and information literacy, the arts and special collections research center and public services. The Digital Humanities Librarian serves as a part of the liaison team with liaison responsibilities to several humanities departments and will partner with other members of the Data and Digital Scholarship unit. This position will be a key member of Baylor initiatives to grow the presence of digital humanities research on campus. This is an academic professional position with faculty status.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ALA-accredited Master’s degree in library/information science or equivalent combination of education and professional experience, such as an advanced degree in a humanities discipline.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of humanities information sources and research methods
  • Familiarity with one or more integrated web digital humanities applications (such as HathiTrust Research Center, JStor’s Data for Research, or Gale Digital Scholar Lab), tools (such as VoyantTools, Gephi, AntConc, or ArcGIS/StoryMaps) and methods (such as text mining, text encoding, topic modeling, mapping, network analysis or data visualization)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and a diverse clientele in a service-oriented, research-intensive environment
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively in an academic setting, with demonstrated skills in oral communication, written communication, and interpersonal interaction
  • Effective organizational, teaching, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated flexibility, creativity, and initiative in one’s work
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and competing priorities
  • Commitment to continual development of professional knowledge and skills

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary academic degree in history, English, modern languages or other humanities discipline.
  • Experience in an academic or research library including experience in collection development and public services and in developing partnerships with academic departments and other campus units
  • Experience supporting digital humanities projects
  • Record of completed or on-going digital humanities research
  • Familiarity with the concepts, goals, and methods of information literacy
