The University Farm at Morehead State University is accepting applications for a full-time position as a Farm Manager/Instructor. The anticipated start date is 09/01/2021.

Morehead State University is located in Morehead, KY, a designated Kentucky Trail Town, nestled in Daniel Boone National Forest, in close proximity to Cave Run Lake. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Farm Manager/Instructor is responsible for managing the Derrickson Agricultural Complex (DAC) and Browning Orchard as teaching laboratories for the Department of Agricultural Sciences. This position manages the production aspects of all enterprises at DAC and Browning Orchard to provide learning experiences for students enrolled in Agricultural courses. Responsibilities include: directs all activities that pertain to the operation and maintenance of DAC and Browning Orchard including livestock, horticultural, and agronomic enterprises; works with Agricultural faculty; supervises; farm staff and students; oversees students who live at DAC; serves as a faculty member in the Department of Agricultural Sciences and teaches classes at DAC. Essential Duties: prepares and implements production schedules for all operations, which include beef, swine, sheep, equine, forage, corn and horticultural crops, and greenhouse production for five (5) greenhouses; maintains production records for all enterprises; keeps inventories for all assets and prepares monthly and yearly reports; identifies and secures all equipment and supplies needed; markets, schedules transportation and monitors all products which are produced and sold; works with Facilities Management to secure contractors needed for work that cannot be performed by the staff at DAC and Browning Orchard; ensures all equipment is maintained properly to prolong the life for safe and efficient operation by employees and students; maintains certification on restricted pesticides and ensures that all pesticides are used according to their directions and keeps the necessary records related to the purchase, storage, and use of all pesticides; assigns daily work schedules for all farm and student employees, including weekends and holidays; oversees the maintenance of all buildings at DAC and Browning Orchard; works with the Coordinator of the Veterinary Technology Program for the care and maintenance of the animal health care facilities; oversees the maintenance of all grounds at DAC and Browning Orchard; coordinates all events held at the Richardson Livestock Arena by assuring the arena is prepared, managed, and cleaned for all events; serves as the designated representative for MSU with the Farm Service Agency (formerly ASCS office); develops plans for the office and provides reports and information needed to comply with the current rules and regulations set forth by the Kentucky and U.S. Department of Agriculture; coordinates residential staff members to ensure that security is provided around the clock; ensures training for all farm staff and students to provide a safe working environment; and works daily with all faculty members to ensure that the best learning experiences are being provided for the students in the Agricultural Sciences Program. This position is required to live in housing furnished by the University at DAC.

REQUIREMENTS: Master’s Degree in Agriculture or closely related area and one-year of farm management experience. Basic computer skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Farm management experience beyond the required one year. Advanced computer skills. Knowledge of farm management computer programs.
