Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Academic Services, the Academic Services First-Year Counselor supports the work of Academic Services in preparing the newest members of our community to become self-reliant Bennington students, capable of self advocacy, collaboration, and able to define and articulate their educational and personal goals. The Academic Services First-Year Counselor will strive to center the student experience, collaborate with faculty advisors and other colleagues across campus, support students on Academic Warning, advocate for and guide Bennington's program for first-generation, low income, and/or working-class students (FLoW), and lead weekly First-Year Forum Workshops.

Preference will be given to candidates who possess a minimum of 2 years of academic advising or coaching, can demonstrate success with advising, coaching, student programming, team building, and/or event planning for college aged students in a small liberal arts environment. An advanced degree is preferred. This position requires successful completion and acceptable results of a background check.
A counselor who thrives in this position will have the potential to:

- Have the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously, work independently, work in a fast-paced environment, and be comfortable taking initiative and being self directed
- Have detailed organization, flexibility taking on tasks of varying depths and detail, promote events through print, electronic, and social media channels
- Possess strong technology skills including proficiency in Google Suite with advanced knowledge of Google spreadsheets
- Be willing to work flexible hours (some evenings and weekends) to meet the needs of our students
