Position Summary:
The Director/Recruiter for underserved students will have oversight of UI's Black/African American Cultural Center, reports to the Chief Diversity Officer and provides experienced and visionary leadership to assess, develop, and implement recruitment, retention initiatives and programming within a primary theoretical framework that centers on racial equity frameworks and inclusion pedagogies. The Director/Recruiter will work collaboratively with colleagues to support recruitment and improve the campus climate and the work of addressing individual and cultural racism, and provide advocacy and leadership with proven abilities to bring different people of all backgrounds together.

The Director/Recruiter assumes primary responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the Center, including the supervision of all staff, the development and implementation of programmatic and operational procedures, recruitment, education and outreach, administration of budgets, grant writing, developing short and long-range goals in keeping with the mission and strategic and diversity plans of the University of Idaho and the Office of Equity and Diversity.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s in Black or Ethnic Studies, Student Service, Social Psychology, Sociology, Communication Studies, or Higher Education Leadership. • Two years of experience working on Black/African American issues in higher education or student service programs.
• Experience in multicultural programming development.
• Experience in multicultural student recruitment.
• Experience with diversity and inclusion professional development and training in higher education.
• Experience in marketing and communications (e.g., electronic newsletters, websites, social media).
• Experience in fundraising and working with alumni/diverse constituents.
• Experience in grant writing.
• Experience designing and implementing programs focusing on Pan African, Black students.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Ph.D./Ed.D. in Black or Ethnic Studies, student services, social psychology, sociology, communication studies, higher education leadership, or Social Justice Education.
• Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze and report statistical information and reach a conclusion supported by research.
• Knowledge of literacy, and conversational comfort about diversity and inclusion issues that are found at a large rural predominantly white university.
• Demonstrated ability to discuss the theoretical frameworks that underpin any training and professional development on racial equity and inclusion and be able to write curriculum tailored to these frameworks.
• Demonstrated experience working with faculty, staff, and students on Black centered frameworks and anti-racism at a systemic level.
• Courses or specialization in Black or African American Studies.
• Demonstrated strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
