Biology Lecturer

The Department of Biology in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Kentucky (UK) in Lexington, KY seeks a Lecturer to join a supportive faculty that is dedicated to the success of all its members and the students it serves. The selected applicant will begin their appointment in January or August of 2022. They will be appointed to a full time, nine-month, non-tenure track faculty position for an initial two-year period that has the potential for renewal and for promotion to Senior Lecturer after five years.

The candidate’s teaching responsibilities will include lecturing in introductory-level courses and coordinating and teaching in an upper division laboratory course. Additional responsibilities may include advising students, University/College/Department-level service, and training graduate teaching assistants.

The College and Department is committed to promoting the candidate’s success in teaching and their continued professional growth and development. Their teaching in state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories will be supported by pedagogical and technological expertise in our Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning. Their continued training in science pedagogy will be supported and nurtured by an established, supportive group of full-time faculty focused on teaching and learning. And their growth as a scientist will be encouraged by opportunities to mentor undergraduates in research and to expand their teaching to courses appropriate to their professional qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications: A Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) in a biological science. Experience teaching a college level course (previously employed as a graduate student instructor, teaching assistant, lecturer, etc.) in a biological science. Post-doctoral experience using student-centered teaching to promote engagement and inclusion in large undergraduate biology courses. Familiarity with a web-based learning management system (e.g., Canvas).

Minimum Basic Qualifications: The completion of a Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) in a biological science. Experience teaching a college level course (previously employed as a graduate student instructor, teaching assistant, lecturer, etc.).
