West Virginia University Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute and the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry in the WVU School of Medicine in Morgantown, WV seek a Faculty Social Worker or Counselor for the Healthy Minds University, the WVU student mental health clinic.

Duties: This position will carry 40% administrative and 60% clinical responsibilities. Teaching and research/scholarly activity as detailed below.

  1. Service: Provision of psychotherapeutic services for the Healthy Minds University with training and experience in the treatment of young adults, trauma, anxiety/affective disorders, substance use and/or group therapy.
  2. Teaching: Competence in teaching and clinical supervision of psychotherapy to staff therapists and Departmental trainees including: residents in the general psychiatry program, psychology interns, social work graduate students and counseling graduate students.
  3. Research/Scholarly Activity: Ability to conduct independent research and/or develop a scholarly interest from concept to completed product (ie publication, national/regional presentation or similar activity) and an ability to mentor trainees to develop research from concept to completion.

    Successful candidates must have a Masters or Doctorate degree in social work or counseling from an approved program. Eligible candidates must have a West Virginia license as a LICSW or LPC or be eligible to apply for one. Applicants are required to have a strong clinical background with 3-5 years of clinical experience practicing with an independent license. In addition, candidates should have administrative experience including program development. For appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank, a demonstrated track-record of leadership, excellent teaching skills, research and publications are required. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.

    The West Virginia University Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, led by Dr. Ali Rezai, is expanding to include the clinical, research, and academic missions of Neurosurgery, Neurology, and Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry, among others. The Institute is spearheading efforts to develop innovative solutions for West Virginians and those across the world with neurological and psychiatric conditions ranging from Alzheimer’s to Parkinson’s; autism to stroke; and paralysis to chronic pain, addictions, and traumatic brain injury.
