The School of Art in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University seeks to hire a full-time 9-month (academic-year) Lecturer in the online Digital Photography program, beginning August 2021. This position will serve online and in-person undergraduate students.

The School of Art seeks a candidate with a rich and varied skill set in the field of digital photography. The successful candidate is able to teach both upper division and lower division online courses for undergraduates, including topic courses. The successful candidate will have knowledge of historical and contemporary imagemakers, as well as aesthetic and conceptual issues within photography. The successful candidate will have advanced digital technical skills. The successful candidate will have experience working with a diverse student population with varying skill levels, including non-art majors. The successful candidate must be able to communicate to students their progress, while recognizing their diversified backgrounds and levels. The successful candidate will be able to utilize an online platform to organize their course work and facilitate grading.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Master of Fine Arts degree
  • Demonstrated evidence of professional activity and experience in photography 
  • Demonstrated evidence of commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Demonstrated excellence in online teaching and curriculum development with at least three years experience teaching digital photography online in higher education

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to teach all levels (upper-division and lower-division) of undergraduate courses including special topics courses
  • Knowledgeable of online teaching platforms: Canvas, Slack, CritViz or similar asynchronous critique platform
  • Ability to teach/develop non-major survey course(s) for online
