Position Summary
The College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Georgia ( UGA ), invites applications for a clinical track (non-tenure track) position in shelter medicine at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor. The major responsibilities for this position are to teach and provide surgical and medical instruction to fourth-year veterinary students at the Athens Area Humane Society ( AAHS ) in Athens, Georgia. The relationship between UGA and AAHS is newly established, and the successful candidate is expected to help develop the program.
The successful candidate should establish a service that provides a robust clinical experience for students by emphasizing patient care; providing clinical training in spay/neuter techniques, basic surgery, and dentistry; and demonstrating the role of a veterinarian in shelter practice. Additional responsibilities include teaching shelter medicine to preclinical veterinary students, supporting community outreach programs, and participating in continuing education to local and regional groups.

Clinical Assistant Professor
Candidates should be board certified or eligible for board certification. Candidates should show evidence of a high level of competence and demonstrated promise of moving toward excellence in patient care, student instruction, scholarly activities, or practice and service.
Clinical Associate Professor
Board certification and a minimum of five years at the rank of clinical assistant professor, or comparable experience. Clear and convincing evidence of stature as a regional authority. Demonstrated excellence in clinical competency and documented excellence in patient care, student instruction, scholarly activities, or practice and service.
Clinical Professor
Board certification and at least five years at the rank of clinical associate professor, or comparable experience. Excellence in clinical competency and recognized at the national level as an authority. Documented excellence in patient care, student instruction, scholarly activities, professional leadership, or practice and service. Candidates should demonstrate superior performance and be recognized by students or peers as an outstanding educator.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
Preference will be given to candidates with formal training in shelter medicine.
