Job Summary: The overall purpose of this job is to provide college level support to the students pursuing an Associate Degree in the culinary arts and by extension to students pursuing an AAS in Business with a concentration in hospitality. This position will procure food and supplies for the culinary arts program, coordinate any curriculum-based culinary events, and supervise part time workers related to those events. In addition, the position will be required to teach six hours per semester. The successful candidate for this position must be qualified to serve the institution as an adjunct instructor in non-kitchen culinary arts courses – this usually means at least a Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience working in the food service, food facility, or culinary management area. At least five years of food procurement and budgetary management experience is required. A culinary arts degree in not required.

About the Business and Computer Technology Department

The mission of the Pellissippi State's Business and Computer Technology (BCT) Department is to meet the educational needs of present and future business, computer, hospitality, and paralegal professionals.

The BCT Department is committed to giving students both the classroom education and the hands-on experience they need to compete and excel in a wide variety of fields. And the department does an exceptional job of fulfilling that commitment: it enjoys an excellent reputation in the Knoxville area and has a long-term job placement rate of more than 90 percent.

Business and Computer Technology is made up of 30 faculty members, all of whom have their fingers on the pulse of ever-changing business and computer practices. Students benefit from constantly updated software and more than 50 computer labs across the College’s five campuses.

Whether you’re drawn to the applied field of computer technology or you prefer to share ideas at a corporate roundtable, Business and Computer Technology has developed a two-year Associate of Applied Science degree to suit your needs. Culture and Diversity

Located in Haley Heritage Square is a 13-foot high bronze statue of author and Pulitzer Prize winner Alex Haley who chose to spend the last several years of his life in Knoxville. Renowned artists Beauford Delaney and Joseph Delaney hailed from Knoxville. Musicians Roy Acuff, Chet Atkins, the Everly Brothers, and RB Morris called Knoxville home during their careers. Women’s suffragist Lizzie Crozier French was active in the ratification of the 19thamendment and was born and raised in Knoxville.

Essential Job Functions:

40% Prepare and teach college courses in the culinary arts.

35% Order and track culinary program food, supplies and other items as required and maintain appropriate inventory(ies).

5% Produce appropriate culinary arts reports (accreditation, financial, personnel, etc.).

5% Engage in on-going professional development activities especially those related to accreditation of the culinary arts program.

5% Work with approved local organizations and venues to assure that students engage in and lead real-world culinary events as part of their college coursework.

5% Supervise part time event workers

5% Serve the college and community as appropriate and other.

Job Standards:

· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required. A culinary arts degree is not required.

A minimum of 5 years of experience working in all of the following areas is required. Eight years is preferred.

· Food service, food facility, or culinary management

· Food procurement

· Budgetary management

Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

· Demonstrated commitment and understanding of the community college ethos is highly preferred.

· Some previous teaching experience as a community college instructor is highly preferred.

Please note that the degree must be from an accredited institution.

Special Skills/Application of Knowledge: Familiarity with ACF accreditation is expected. Previous experience with an ACF accredited community college culinary arts program is highly preferred.

Budgetary: The position requires the ability to place food and supply orders on a regular basis and to make instant decisions regarding substitute items without approval (all within budget constraints). The position will make an annual recommendation of program budget needs to the department dean. Depending on enrollment, this position could be responsible for as much as $40,000 or more each semester for food and supplies.

Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, manipulate kitchen instruments with the hands, operate a variety of kitchen equipment, and generally be mobile 100% of the time while on and between campuses. The position requires the ability to lift bulk food products and equipment or supplies (which could include items weighing up to 50 pounds).

Pay Rate: $53,830 - $67,160.00/per year. Pay will be determined based on related work experience above required. To be considered in determining pay, all related work experience must be listed on the application.
