.2 Full-time/Part-time Part-Time Position Type Staff Job Summary/Basic Function
The primary responsibility of this temporary position is to provide Supplemental Instruction for BIOL 110, Evolution & Diversity students at the Bay College Escanaba campus during the Fall 2021 semester. Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an internationally recognized academic support program that targets traditionally difficult courses. Students come together in regularly scheduled study sessions to compare notes, discuss course materials, develop creative study tools, practice problem solving and prepare for exams. These sessions are facilitated by trained SI Leaders that attend the course with students and prepare study materials for use during SI sessions. The SI leader must be available to attend lecture and hold SI sessions at the following times • Lecture: TR 2:00-3:20pm • SI: M 2:00-3:20pm • Office hours: 3 hours/week • Total average 8 hours/week Minimum Qualifications
• Demonstrated competence (at least an A-) in BIOL 110, Evolution & Diversity or a comparable course. • Completed the equivalent of two years of college course work. • Strong foundation in biology. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Tutoring experience. • Must also be able to work virtually from home if needed. Preferred Qualifications
• BS/BA in biology or related field. • Experience in Supplemental Instruction. • Teaching experience. Months Per Year 8 Hours Worked Per Week 8 Work Schedule The SI leader must be available to attend lecture and hold SI sessions Supervision Exercised Supervision Received

Hold three office hours throughout the week to enhance SI session planning and provide services to students. Job Duty
Meet with the course instructor weekly to ensure accuracy and relevancy of the SI session material. Job Duty
Meet with the SI Manager weekly during the semester to assess and enhance the effectiveness of the SI sessions through the application of continuous improvement protocols. Job Duty
Take notes and complete all assignments and readings for the course. Job Duty
Advertise SI to students. Job Duty
Take attendance at each SI session and report weekly attendance to the instructor and semester attendance to the SI Manager. Job Duty
Utilize session planning forms to prepare organized, effective SI sessions. Job Duty
Create a comfortable and supportive learning environment during the SI sessions. Job Duty
Teach study skills and use collaborative learning techniques to help students master course material. Job Duty
Administer and record data for SI evaluation surveys. Job Duty
Mentor and advise students on ancillary topics such as referring them to other needed support services available within the college. Job Duty
Attend regular training sessions provided by college staff. Job Duty
Provide services to students utilizing the Student Success Center during office hours. Job Duty
Any other duties as assigned
