Job Details

The MEDEX Section in the Department of Family Medicine (DFM), University of Washington is seeking a full-time Physician Assistant. The position will be on the clinician teacher track with a faculty title of associate professor without tenure due to source of funding (WOT). This position has a 12-month (July 1 – June 30) service period and is based at the main campus in Seattle, Washington. The expected start date is August 1, 2021, or soon thereafter.

This position resides in the MEDEX Section most aligned with teaching. Duties will include providing clinical care in UW Medicine clinic(s) and hospital(s) as well as teaching and advising learners and participating in departmental administrative duties.

This senior level position provides a high level of curricular oversite and guidance, to help ensure that the MEDEX curriculum continues to meet the needs of the program as we exit the COVID pandemic. MEDEX faculty assist in all aspects of the program, including development, delivery and evaluation of the curriculum associated with the program as well as student recruitment activities.

Responsibilities:

This position will be expected to:

Didactic Team:

  • provide high level curricular guidance
  • serve in a leadership role in the MEDEX curriculum committee
  • teach in classroom and on-line
  • develop syllabi, lectures and evaluation instruments
  • coordinate or chair at least one course
  • advise and evaluate students
  • work collaboratively with other faculty members, medical director, staff and invited guest lecturers

Clinical Team:

  • develop and nurture clinical sites and preceptors, which requires online meetings and travel to various campuses or rotation sites for in person visits
  • manage student placements throughout the second (clinical) year
  • develop and maintain the clinical year curriculum
  • supervise clinical end-of-rotation activities  

Direct Patient Care:

  • Work 0.2 FTE in providing direct patient care as a Family Medicine PA within UW Medicine

Additionally, all faculty at MEDEX are expected to participate in admissions activities, scholarly activity, section and department committees, as well as other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Minimum ten (10) years teaching experience in an accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • Academic Credentials appropriate for appointment as an Associate Professor in the UW School of Medicine Department of Family Medicine
  • Must have a PA license or be license eligible in Washington State
  • Completion of a Physician Assistant program
  • Current NCCPA certification
  • A master's or doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in Physician Assistant Studies or a related field
  • Clinically active as a Physician Assistant
  • Must reside (or be willing to relocate) within driving distance of campus location

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduate of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
