Postdoctoral Fellow

Biophysics of Natural Climate Solutions

We are seeking a highly-motivated postdoctoral fellow to join our research team at Indiana University (IU) – Bloomington. The position will be focused on leveraging land-atmosphere carbon, water, and energy flux observations to reduce biophysical uncertainty surrounding the usefulness of Natural Climate Solutions, including reforestation and altered cropland and forest management regimes. The postdoctoral fellow will be encouraged to purse a novel research project with an emphasis on constraining our understanding of the carbon uptake potential of NCS and/or associated biophysical impacts on local hydrologic and temperature regimes. Preference will be given to candidates prepared to synthesize data contained in environmental observation networks, alone or in combination with remote sensing observations and models.

 

The postdoctoral fellow will be supervised by Dr. Kim Novick (IU O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs), with ample opportunities to collaborate with other environmental science faculty on the IU-Bloomington campus. The postdoctoral fellow will be based in Bloomington, Indiana. The position is expected to last for 24 months beginning in late fall of 2021, with opportunities for an additional year of support contingent on funding  


Qualifications: The successful application will have earned a Ph.D. in environmental science or engineering, atmospheric science, ecology, environmental informatics, or a related field at time of appointment. Successful applicants will demonstrate the ability to work independently and to mentor undergraduate and graduate research assistants.
