Primary Purpose of Position:
Primary Purpose of the Position
The primary purpose of the position is to provide direction over all aspects of the Counseling Center's operation, programs and activities, consonant with the mission and goals of the University, the Division of Student Affairs, and the Counseling Center. All permanent professional, fully licensed staff report to the Director, who is also responsible for developing and implementing the overall philosophy, goals and operating procedures and principles for the Counseling Center; supervision of all Counseling Center efforts; evaluating the effectiveness of all phases of Counseling Center programs and operations, and preparing necessary reports on Center functions; developing and managing the unit's budget and all other aspects of the fiscal operations of the Counseling Center; performing limited counseling functions; developing professional growth opportunities for the Counseling Center staff, including in-service workshops, contacts with professional groups and organizations and development of counseling resources; recruitment and evaluation of professional and support Counseling Center staff; serving as liaison to all other areas of the Division of Student Affairs and the University and articulating the mission and goals of the Counseling Center to the University community; serving on Student Affairs and University committees and task groups and serving as a professional resource to healthcare professionals and to other professional counseling and advising staff and a consultant to university faculty and staff as appropriate.

Minimum Education/Experience:
• Earned doctorate in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Social Work or a related mental health field from an accredited college or university.

• At least 5 years of pertinent administrative experience supervising multidisciplinary clinicians and managing a clinical service. Strong preference for prior experience as director or assistant director of a college/university counseling center.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Demonstrated expertise in crisis intervention and management and in the assessment of clinical services and the needs of client populations.
• Ability to juggle competing demands and set priorities to make continuous progress toward strategic goals.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and experience addressing these issues in mental health settings and through informed treatment practices, including addressing cultural competence across all facets of diversity.
• Strong fiscal management skills and experience managing departmental funds.

• Knowledge of current trends and best practices in collegiate mental health services.

• Expertise in the provision of consultation services for students, faculty, staff, parents and other constituents of the University community regarding complex student mental health concerns.
• Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to develop a broad institutional perspective and work collaboratively with other departments and campus partners.
