Position Summary:
The Visiting Instructor will teach two sections each semester of Legal Research and Writing (LRW), although in his discretion, the Dean may instead require the Visiting Instructor to teach (or co-teach) one section each semester of either Applied Legal Analysis or Legal Analysis for the Bar Exam instead of one of the sections of LRW.

JOB DUTIES:
The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following functions, which are not listed in any particular order of significance:
- Teach one or two sections of Legal Research and Writing (LRW)
per semester, which includes providing classroom instruction,
timely written feedback on assignments, and individual academic
counseling on progress towards course learning
objectives.
- In lieu of one of the sections of LRW, teach either Applied
Legal Analysis or Legal Analysis for the Bar per semester, which
includes providing classroom instruction, timely written feedback
on student assignments, and individual academic counseling on bar
exam readiness.
- Refine and/or develop and implement programming to assist
students in preparing for academic success while in law school and
passing the state bar exam after graduation.
- Work closely with students in both the legal research and
writing, academic success, and bar preparation programs, while
maintaining professionalism and appropriate demeanor that
encourages learning.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited
U.S. law school required.
- Experience: At least two years' experience as a licensed
attorney in the practice of law, which experience must have
involved the preparation and editing of high-quality legal work
product, is preferred.
- Computer skills: Proficient in the use of computer for word
processing and electronic communication. Ability to learn and adapt
quickly to new software. Any combination of education, training or
experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities
required to perform the essential functions of the position. Law
degree required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of, or enthusiasm to learn about preparation for, the
Oregon bar exam and/or the Uniform Bar Exam.
- A genuine enthusiasm for student success, and an ability to be
empathetic towards students with academic challenges.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality on sensitive
issues.
- Ability to work independently as well as establish and maintain
harmonious relations with staff, faculty, students and
professionals in the community regardless of their race, religion,
sexual orientation, gender identity, economic status, ethnicity,
job status, or other background.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
At least one year's experience teaching in an ABA-accredited law school, preferably in the school's legal research & writing program.
TYPICAL WORK SCHEDULE:
Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS:
Standard office/classroom environment.
