REMOTE option: Remote-based location may be possible. Must be US-based; preference for working remotely will be given to location in New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, or Atlanta areas.

Syracuse Abroad (SA) seeks a dynamic, engaging, persuasive Director of Strategic Partnerships and Outreach to lead institutional relationship, recruitment, and new business development for a nationally recognized University education abroad provider. The position will lead a comprehensive recruitment strategy to attract students from outside Syracuse University to participate in SA programs. They will be responsible for cultivating strong, trust-based partner relationships and customized programs, as well as strengthening and extending the Syracuse Abroad brand recognition and revenue streams. Working with the Division of Marketing and Communications, this position plays a key role in developing and overseeing SA’s marketing, communication, and public relations plans. Under general direction of SA’s Assistant Provost/Executive Director, this position works in close collaboration with the Director of Admissions (recruitment/enrollment), Director of Global Operations (business development, revenue generation) and Director of Academic Programs (new and customized program development, academic standards). The incumbent will directly oversee a staff of 4, including the Institutional Relations team (3 staff) & the Communications Manager and will have dotted line supervision over the Assistant Director of World Partner Programs for program development work. This position will be an integral member of the SA leadership team and will engage with SA center directors as well as campus administration/faculty to achieve SA goals and to advance University-wide internationalization outlined in the Academic Strategic Plan.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree required, with eight (8) plus years of progressively responsible experience in higher education recruitment, international partnership/program development, or equivalent related experience.

• Five (5) plus years of leadership experience.

• Demonstrated experience developing and executing strategic plans.

• Experience living, working, or studying abroad.

• Experience supervising, motivating and inspiring staff.

• Committed to advancing diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.

• Highly motivated, well-organized leader with excellent demonstrated intercultural communication, partner relationship and negotiation skills.

• Knowledge of best practices and trends in the field of international education.

Responsibilities

External Recruitment Strategy & Implementation:
• Develop/implement a data-driven
recruitment strategy for domestic (U.S.) visiting students from partner universities/colleges to participate in SA center semester & summer programs.
• Stay informed of industry best practices, market trends, competitive threats, and new technologies to achieve enrollment goals.
• Establish team portfolios and measurable recruitment goals for each team member in line with revenue targets, working in close collaboration with the directors of admissions/campus engagement.
• Supervise institutional relations/recruitment team to implement strategy and meet enrollment goals, including educating a diverse range of audiences about Syracuse programs, such as prospective students/families, higher education administrators, and faculty/staff.
• Collaborate with admissions and marketing/communications teams to ensure an integrated approach to advertising, outreach, engagement and yield initiatives, as well as partner-specific sales tools/collateral.
• Conduct regular analysis of institutional trends including student inquiries, applications, and enrollments; prepare and present recruitment statistics, objectives and status to leadership.
• Measure/monitor/analyze the team’s account activities and contacts. Oversee and manage institutional relations & marketing budgets to achieve shared goals.

Strategic Partnership Growth and Management:
• Responsible for strategic growth/maintenance of high value domestic/international institutional partnerships in support of recruitment/revenue generation goals.
• Staying abreast of trends in field of education abroad, play a lead role in developing revenue operations thru existing/new partnerships.
• Develop/oversee US university/college partnership relationship cultivation/growth strategy (regional/national) based on partner program/curriculum needs, strong knowledge of SA program/curriculum, SU strengths.
• Understand needs/profiles of academic leadership, study abroad office staff, faculty/administration to build a strategy of partner engagement (thematic webinars, presentations, conferences, working papers, site visits), identify opportunities for custom program development and oversee establishment.
• Strategically cultivate portfolio of high quality study abroad World Partner (direct exchange, 3rd party provider) programs and experiences for students that complement SA center program and align with SA global learning/business objectives, supported by Assistant Director/WP Programs.
• Oversee requirement assessment of partner programs (student programs, service and support/health/safety).
• Regularly represent SU as a leader in education abroad at international/national/regional conferences, study abroad fairs, other relevant international education events.
• Maintain strong working relationships with relevant colleagues across SU in
support of program development goals.

Strategic Communication, Marketing, Promotion:
• In collaboration with the Division of Marketing and Communications, generate and lead external marketing/communications/public relations plans to effectively convey SA’s unique value, and engage target audiences to support student recruitment and elevate profile of SA with relevant audiences.
• Working with Marketing (responsible for developing SA marketing strategy), admissions, and academic leadership, oversee SA image positioning following established University brand standards/governance/approach, and ensure alignment of marketing strategy with SA’s global learning mission/partnership engagement/enrollment goals.
• Oversee and provide guidance/support to the SA Communications Manager (responsible for implementing marketing strategy for all SA programs, including project management, content creation, & creation/execution of Abroad specific digital/social media tactics) in line with organizational goals.
• Identify/oversee development of story concepts/subjects/profiles that represent the mission/vision/image/academic excellence and experiential learning opportunities and student experience of SA programs.
• Provide strategic guidance in the framing and development of key marketing promotional materials (flyers, newsletters, etc.) and SA websites.
• Create and execute strategic communication plans for SA mass communications for varied stakeholders (students/families/ partners/etc.).
• Monitor trends within education abroad and present findings to leadership/partners.
