Position Title

Respiratory Therapy Program Director and Assistant/Associate Professor

Job Description

The School of Nursing and Health Professions seeks applications for the position of Respiratory Therapy Program Director and Tenure-Track, Assistant/Associate Professor.

Location: St Joseph, Missouri

This position will be responsible for leading the implementation of a new respiratory therapy program in accordance with the Commission on Accreditation of Respiratory Therapy (CoARC) Standards. The faculty member’s duties will center on building the Respiratory Therapy (RT) program, communication, coordinating the RT lab space and equipment, designing training materials, and leading program planning, implementation and assessment.


Essential duties will include program policy and procedure development, developing courses and teaching a variety of respiratory therapy courses including didactic and clinical.

Additional responsibilities will include advising program students; maintaining office hours; serving on committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program; participating in appropriate professional development activities; participating in scholarly activities and departmental/individual research; participating in service to the university and community; and instructing and assisting in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methods, and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in respiratory care or related field. Minimum of four years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two years in clinical respiratory care and at least two years in a teaching position in an accredited respiratory care program or as a clinical instructor.

Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist ( RRT ) credential.
Current Respiratory Therapy licensure, or eligible for licensure in the State of Missouri

•Excellent Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
•Excellent teaching skills with an ability to coordinate with the faculties and students from diverse cultural backgrounds
•Strong organizational skills
•Ability to multitask
•Ability to engage large groups of people with complicated material
•Able to teach with appropriate real-world experience
•Able to demonstrate confidence teaching and presenting in a public forum
•Technologically adept: can utilize electronic communications, online learning management systems, and other forms of technology related to the position
•Passionate about specific academic fields and education in general
•Clearly understands curriculum design, pedagogy, and learning outcomes assessment

Preferred Qualifications

Registered Respiratory Therapy Neonatal Respiratory Therapist ( NRP ) and Adult Critical Care Specialty ( ACCS )
