Department Summary

The Department of Housing and Residential Education (DHRE) at Cal State University San Bernardino promotes Each Student's Learning Experience by creating safe, supportive learning environments for academic and personal success. The Cal State University San Bernardino Department of Housing and Residential Education (DHRE) is a dynamic, growing program built upon a student learning philosophy of valuing and respecting the diversity of each individual, supporting the total development of the whole student within an inclusive community through academic initiatives, student leadership, community standards, and supportive learning environments within campus living.


Job Summary

Repairs
  • Routine maintenance within unoccupied apartments and traditional student rooms, including but not limited to: replacing smoke detector batteries, changing air filters, cleaning light fixtures and replacing batteries, installing mini-blinds, visually inspecting for plumbing leaks or other needed repairs.
  • Complete basic repairs to furniture such as replacing drawer glides, replacing door hinges, adjusting bed heights.
  • Maintain logs of completed work categorized by building, space, bedroom, and other specific information required for efficient record keeping.

Organization
  • Relocate furniture, including but not limited to: beds, mattresses, desks, dressers, couches, chairs, etc.
  • Organize and maintain inventory. Ensure that all parts, products, chemicals, tools, and other equipment are labeled and properly stored.

Other
  • Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.


Employment Status: Full-time, "non-exempt", temporary, emergency hire appointment.

Work Schedule
  • Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm OR Tuesday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, weekends and evenings may be required.



Key Qualifications
  • Applicants must possess the ability to push, pull, lift and carry loads up to 50 lbs.
  • Applicants must have the ability to maintain effective work relationships with staff and students.
  • Applicants must have the ability to use and care for custodial supplies and equipment and observe and use safe working conditions.
  • Applicants must have the ability to climb ladders, reach overhead, kneel, bend over and crouch as needed.
  • Applicants must have the ability to read and write at an appropriate level.
  • Applicants must have the ability to follow simple oral and written directions.



Required License
  • A valid California driver's license.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of related experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable state and federal civil rights, education, or employee/labor relations laws and regulations.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Prior experience in a Residential Life setting is preferred.



Salary

Anticipated Hiring Range: $2,912.00

Classification Salary Range: $2,912.00 - $5,048.00
