Emporia State University is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Director of the Academic Center for Excellence and Success (ACES) in Emporia, KS. The Director is a full-time, year-round, staff position, which reports to the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management and Academic Success. The position often requires work hours that match the center’s hours of operation (ex. 10am-7pm).

Located in William Allen White Library on the ESU campus, ACES exists to enhance the academic success of ESU students by providing free peer tutoring, embedded tutoring for specific classes, writing and research assistance, and individual and small group academic workshops and success coaching to meet the academic support needs of our diverse student population. The Director of ACES provides leadership and implementation for all ACES activities, services, and CRLA certification.  Additionally, this position will direct the overall operation of the Center, including hiring tutors, meetings with students one-on-one, and assessment of student success initiatives, especially as they pertain to retention, progression, and graduation rates.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Participate in campus committees and other meetings pertinent to ACES and/or ESU student success
  • Plan for the future: Create and develop efforts to increase student success for changing demographics utilizing exemplary practices in higher education
  • Identify opportunities, partnerships and initiatives to further ACES’s goals and grow ACES’s offerings in support of student success
  • Serve as a liaison and resource to faculty and instructors
  • Provide leadership to the personnel and programs of ACES
  • Train ACES team regarding CRLA Certifications

Programming Responsibilities:

  • Create, organize, and revise student success programs, services, and workshops as needed
  • Facilitate, analyze, and address assessments of all ACES initiatives and services
  • Work with faculty, tutors and students to determine the specific needs for academic support at ESU
  • Schedule, track, and market ACES services

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the instructional functions of ACES, including tutoring services, embedded tutoring, academic assessment preparation, coaching and workshops
  • Develop and administer the budget and Foundation funds ACES
  • Administer financial tasks, including processing of timesheets for payroll and purchasing supplies
  • Write and renew the CRLA level I and II certifications

The ideal candidate will be a creative, self-motivated individual with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, a keen attention to detail, and an excellent collaborator who knows how to work independently and as a team player to achieve goals related to the ESU mission and strategic plan.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree and at least five years of experience working with college students
  • Knowledge of higher education student success and retention literature.
  • Demonstrated success in planning and implementing success initiatives.
  • Knowledge of teaching and learning strategies that are appropriate for tutoring, coaching, and mentoring.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD
  • Experience with Banner
  • Knowledge of CRLA tutor training certification
  • Knowledge of Academia or other tutor tracking software
  • Experience implementing new and innovative initiatives
  • Experience evaluating program effectiveness and program learning outcomes
  • Experience assisting students with learning disabilities and ADA accommodations

The salary for this position is $50,000.  This position also qualifies for a comprehensive benefits package.
