We are currently seeking aResearch Assistantto assist senior staff with data collection for a study aimed to provide a nuanced and holistic understanding of how to meaningfully engage WWUD (Women Who Use Drugs) in COVID-19 testing. The study will employ targeted sampling recruitment on a mobile study van in Baltimore, Maryland. The study will examine predisposing social factors, individual-level factors, and beliefs that are associated with COVID-19 testing and retesting among a cohort (N=250) of WWUD. Data collection will consist of the recruitment of a cohort of the 250 WWUD, with a follow up interview occurring at 3 months. The primary role of the Research Assistant is to assist senior staff prepare for recruitment and subsequently over-see day to day-to-day data collection. Fieldwork will take place primarily during weekdays and may include weekend and evening hours This Position reports to the Field Coordinator.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Field Coordinator with writing a manual of procedures outlining established protocols for data collection and management.
  • Order and maintain supplies for the office and mobile research van (RV).
  • Data Entry.
  • Operating a 30ft RV, driving to various recruitment locations throughout Baltimore City to recruit, interview, and COVID test study participants.
  • General Van Maintenance (emptying septic, filling propane, water and gas etc.).
  • Transporting biological specimens to lab.
  • Serve as Field Staff Supervisor - providing feedback on any QA/QC issues to the Field Coordinator and providing general oversight of casual staff and students.
  • Run standard analyses and produce ad hoc reports related to study recruitment and retention.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline required.
  • Some related experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline, experience working with diverse populations, conducting outreach and field data collection.
  • Experience with data entry and management is also preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Valid driver’s license, must have reliable transportation.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • 2 students.

Please note this position is scheduled to end 06/2022. The position may require evening and weekend hours along with domestic travel. Workdays will vary each week but will work 5 days Monday - Sunday not to exceed 37.5 hours per week.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
