The Department of Epidemiology seeks aResearch Program Coordinator who will work with PI (Nicholas S. Reed) to support ENHANCE study (study of hearing loss and health care outcomes). Primary duty will be data collection and data entry. Other duties include working with study/hospital leadership, IRB support, distribution of training materials, and other related duties.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Will ensure that technician training and equipment calibration is kept up to data for study protocols.
  • Will perform minor field data collection
  • Will oversee and monitor data entry for completeness and accuracy
  • Will also ensure that the research coordinator’s office runs smoothly with, appointment setting, proper allocation of materials, filing and database entry completed in a complete and timely fashion.
  • As an active ‘in the field’ member of the research team, the individual will travel some for training purposes.
  • Will be responsible for maintaining IRB approval for hearing research studies, and will ensure that standard operating procedures for each research study are available, and work with the PI to change operating procedures where necessary.
  • Will prepare and submit IRB annual renewal requests, changes in research, protocol events and amendments according institutional requirements.
  • Will prepare all necessary forms and paperwork related to research protocols and report all potential study protocol events to the PI.

Abilities Needed:

  • Ability to independently manage execution of clinical studies or trials, research protocols, and IRB procedures.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Expertise in the use of Microsoft Office applications, Outlook, and bibliographic software.
  • Familiarity with basic data management and preliminary data analysis
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and strong organization skills are absolute requirements for this position.
  • Independent management and scheduling of activities to support projects.
  • Communication skills are necessary.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of staff and participants in research studies.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
  • Some related experience.
  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred.

Starting Salary Range: $16.26 - $22.35/hr (commensurate with experience)

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
