The Department of Epidemiology seeks a Sr. Research Assistantwho will support faculty, and research staff, in coordinating data collection and management for multiple studies. The Sr. Research Assistant will be responsible for some project management tasks (20%) and coordinating study activities (80%).

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Management:

  • Assisting with IRB submissions
  • Developing drafts of standard operating procedures (SOP)
  • Updating SOPs as needed
  • Assisting in developing data collection tools and maintenance of electronic databases.
  • Provide support and supervise a research assistant.

Coordinating Study:

  • Scheduling and conducting data collection activities in the office and in the field
  • Working with collaborators in other departments
  • Ensuring smooth flow operations
  • Updating calendar of activities
  • Completing other tasks as assigned

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
  • 2 years of related experience. Additional graduate level education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to critically analyze activities, problem solve.
  • Experience with spirometry and air monitoring equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MPH or MS in relevant field preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience conducting spirometry with patients with COPD
  • Experience collecting data from homes
  • Experience with the analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Competency with Microsoft Word and Excel required
  • Must be experienced with STATA or another comparable statistical analysis package.
  • The applicant should also have strong communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Willing to travel to participant homes and once COVID-19 related restrictions are lifted, be willing to enter homes to set up equipment as needed.
  • Must have a car with a valid driver’s license
  • Able to lift 10 lbs.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • 1 Research Assistant

Additional Information:

  • Sr. Research Assistant will be required to occasionally discuss project activities during extended hours.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Starting Salary Range: $38,920 - $53,520 annually (commensurate with experience)

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
