The Department of Health Science, College of Human Environmental Sciences at The University of Alabama seeks candidates for a nine-month faculty position as Instructor of Health Education and Promotion. The successful candidate will be expected to teach face-to-face and online courses within the public health program in the Department. The candidate will also advise within upper class students and students within the accelerated masters program in public health. The selected candidate will be expected to provide professional service to the University, profession, and community; and perform other duties as assigned.


Applicants must possess a graduate degree in health education and promotion and/or public health. We seek applicants with face-to-face and online teaching experience and demonstrated potential for success in teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses. We also seek individuals with advising experience in higher education. Preference will be given to candidates who have: (a) an established record of advising university students, (b) previous teaching experience, and (c) experience with CEPH accreditation. Public health or health education-related certification is desirable (i.e. CPH, CHES®, MCHES®).


The Department of Health Science is comprised of 19 full-time faculty members whose research and teaching interests span a variety of areas that center on improving the health and wellbeing of individuals, communities, populations, and the environment. The Department is home to approximately 800 majors enrolled in one of the degree programs in the Department, including the BS in Public Health (concentrations in Health Education and Promotion, and Health Professions); Master of Public Health (concentration in Health Education and Promotion); MA in Health Studies; PhD in Health Education and Promotion; and BS and MS in Athletic Training. The BS in Public Health and the Master of Public Health degrees are in the process of undergoing accreditation by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
